Jazz and Imaginary Voice
It all began with the meeting between Emma Prat (vocals) and Bertrand Maïlar (guitar). The two artists from Lille discovered a shared desire to tell a story, to convey emotions, and to sing about diversity and hope.
From this encounter was born AÂMA, a word meaning global, shared, universal. More than just a name, it is a true artistic manifesto.
Joined by Sami Foukani-Descamps (double bass), Julien Girard (piano), and Xavier Pernet (drums), AÂMA’s story is that of five musicians who have collectively forged a unique sound, blending sensitivity and boldness while transcending genres and borders.
AÂMA’s music lies at the crossroads of jazz, traditional African and Mediterranean music, and chanson. It flows seamlessly between the lyricism of the East, the freedom of jazz, the narrative depth of song, and African rhythms.
AÂMA is emerging as a rising force on the new French jazz scene. The group recorded its very first album in Brussels, “Le jour où tout ira bien”, a 13-track opus released on March 13, 2026, in physical format and on streaming platforms. The quintet offers original compositions, performed sometimes in French and sometimes in an imaginary language invented by songwriter Emma Prat.
